Looks like the Leafs are going to get a huge centre from the Tampa Bay Lightning…no not that one. The Leafs acquired Brian Boyle for Byron Froese and a 2017 second round pick. Froese is a pending RFA at the end of the season, and it was not likely that he would be resigned with the team. Boyle brings size, skill, fighting ability, face-off wins, and most importantly experience to the Maple Leafs. Brian Boyle knows the nitty gritty things of the playoffs having played in 100 NHL playoff games. He’s even gone as far as the Stanley Cup Final with Tampa in 2015. Whether Boyle can get into the line-up for Tuesday’s game isn’t known for sure however, having him to play with the Leafs for the remainder of the year is incredible.
Leafs vs Sens Remastered
The Leafs and Sens rivalry just got more interesting. Ottawa has acquired Alexander Burrows from the Vancouver Canucks. This is most likely a good add for the Sens, but what do the Leafs have to do with it? Remember that huge 6-3 win the Leafs had against the Canucks? It really had the atmosphere of a playoff game even though it was in November. Do you also remember Burrows spearing Rielly? The Leafs and Sens already have a considerable amount of hate between them. The hatred between both teams has to have been increased with Burrows on the Sens. The only way the Leafs and Sens could play each other again this year is in the playoffs. From the looks of it, if the season were to end today, that would be one of the first round match-ups.
More Tricks Up His Sleeve
After missing the Leafs last 5 games due to injury, Mitch Marner will return to the line-up in tomorrow’s game. JVR and Bozak must be doing the Carlton dance in their hotel rooms. Marner is a great return for the Leafs who need to continue getting points to maintain their playoff spot. Marner sits at 2nd in scoring on the team with 48 points despite missing time. A winger is going to have to be taken out of the line-up to make room for Marner. From the look of the lines at practice this morning, Leivo will be the odd man out as he was rotating with Connor Brown on the Kadri line. If Leivo sitting is what takes Marner to play then Leafs nation should be able to accept it
What do you think?
How will Brian Boyle impact the Leafs’ playoff race? What do you make of the Leafs-Sens rivalry with Burrows on the team? Will JVR and Bozak be rejuvenated with a healthy Marner in the line-up tomorrow? Let me know what you think down below!
