2017 NHL Draft Presents…
Fans are patiently waiting for the Wednesday to get the playoffs started. If you’re team didn’t make it, your sights might be set on the NHL Draft. Nolan Patrick is ranked #1 while Nico Hischier and Casey Mittelstadt are ranked 2 and 3 respectively. The Colorado Avalanche, Arizona Coyotes, and Vancouver Canucks finished with the third worst records this season. However, it’s important to remember that the Las Vegas Golden Knights will have the third best odds at winning the lottery. Most believe that this year’s draft isn’t as good as its 2015 and 2016 counterparts but, the draft is where you build. Running the simulator for the first time gave me Detroit winning the lottery with Arizona and New Jersey 2nd and 3rd. There’s still another two months until the draft, but it’s not too early to start thinking about it.
Empty Seats in LA
I guess the Kings wanted to join in the fun. The team fired GM Dean Lombardi and head coach Daryl Sutter on Monday night. Sutter getting the pink slip made sense. The team seemed to lose the fear established from their two cup wins in 2012 and 2014. The previously revered grinding team came out this season slower and struggling to score. It also didn’t help that Jonathan Quick missed a significant amount of time with a groin injury. Lombardi was surprising. The Bishop trade and the lack of addition at the trade deadline might’ve hurt his value with the team. According to President Luc Robitaille, “With the core players we have in place, we should be contending each year for the Stanley Cup. Our failure to meet these goals has led us to this change.” It’ll be interesting to see what other changes come LA’s way in the playoffs.
